What could be better than earning badges at the National Butterfly Center, where you never know what you will see!  Explore and enjoy wild butterflies, birds of prey, endangered and protected species, and the South Texas specialties that are free to roam, here, where every visit is a unique experience, and each program is designed to provide close encounters with our natural wonders. 

DEADLINE for Registration: Online registration for each activity will close TWO WEEKS prior to the date of the scheduled event.

YOUNG NATURALIST
Saturday, October 11: Earn your NATURALIST badge at the National Butterfly Center, at our most popular Girl Scout event of the year, during the peak of butterfly migration season! Daisies - Ambassadors are invited to become a butterfly and take off on an adventure down the Hackberry Trail, where girls will learn all about BUGS—the building blocks of life on Earth—and how they MAKE THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE.  $15 pp includes your badge(s) & supplies, instructional programs from 9AM - 12PM, plus all-day park admission. There is no charge for 2 leaders/troop; parents and siblings pay applicable park admission, only.  All participants are invited to pack a lunch and picnic under the palapa. Space is limited. PHOTO SAFARI
Saturday, December 6: Earn your DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHER badge in this special workshop for Juniors.  Any digital camera (including camera phones) will do, as you explore the great outdoors to capture your own vision of wildlife and our unique landscape.  $15 pp includes your badge, programs from 9AM - 12PM, plus all-day park admission; no charge for 2 leaders/troop; parents and siblings pay applicable park admission, only.  All participants are encouraged to bring a laptop for editing. GIRL SCOUTS DAY OUT
Saturday, December 13: Come celebrate SPIKE’S 12th BIRTHDAY! Our giant, African-Spurred Tortoise, is friendly and fun, so come party with Spike and the staff of the National Butterfly Center from 10AM – 12PM. Regular park admission applies for this festive event, which includes a special fruitcake, singing, arts & crafts, “Beauty and the Beast” photos with Spike, and what may be the world’s slowest parade. Please bring and apple, long leaf lettuce, or strawberries for our scaled herbivore. No registration required. For more information call 956.583.5400.

SURVIVOR, SOUTH TEXAS
Saturday, January 17 Earn your FIRST AID badge at the National Butterfly Center, where licensed healthcare professionals from McAllen Primary Urgent Care will 'show and tell' us how to handle real life injuries and perform rescue/recovery in the outdoors. $15 pp includes your badge(s) & supplies, programs from 9AM - 12PM, plus all-day park admission, for Daisies - Cadettes.  No charge for 2 leaders/troop; parents and siblings pay applicable park admission, only.  All participants are invited to pack a lunch and picnic under the palapa. SLEEPOVER, UNDER THE STARS
Saturday, February 28: Earn your great OUTDOORS badge at the National Butterfly Center, where Brownies - Ambassadors are invited to participate in our OVERNIGHT event.  Camp is anchored by our Metamorphosis Teepee, where you may hold your own midnight council meeting, over hot chocolate and s'mores.  Juniors may earn Camper and Geocacher, while Cadettes may earn Trailblazing and Night Owl badges in this special opportunity to spend the night under the South Texas stars.  $25 pp includes badge(s), programs from 6:30PM - 7:30AM.  Tents, food, and camping supplies not included. WILD ABOUT ANIMALS
Saturday, APRIL 11: Earn your ANIMAL badge at the National Butterfly Center, where Brownies - Seniors will learn all about animals; from appropriate (and inappropriate) Pets to Habitats, Helpers, and conservation efforts for endangered and protected species, such as the Texas Tortoise and the Texas Indigo. Springtime in the wild is full of surprises, so join us for a program that is sure to please animal lovers of all ages!  $15 pp includes badge(s) & supplies, programs from 9AM - 12PM, plus all-day park admission; no charge for 2 leaders/troop; parents and siblings pay applicable park admission, only.  All participants are invited to pack a lunch and picnic under the palapa.
